Bored Ape Kennel Club (BAKC) NFT collection team is facing backlash from the Crypto Twitter community over the use of a vector image without permission of the actual owner.
Yuga Labs is an NFTs project which launched a collection of NFTs on the giant NFTs trade platform OpenSea. This project came into light in 2021 and grabbed huge popularity, later the project team launched an NFT-themed crypto token “ApeCoin”.
As per reports on behalf of Crypto Twitter users’ investigations, Yuga Labs owned Bored Ape Kennel Club (BAKC) NFT was using a copyrighted logo for its project, without permission from the original artist.
Initially, that used logo was published by a drawing tutorial platform “Easy Drawing Guides” and shared by the original artist on Twitter, in April 2021.
On 17 Feb 2023, A crypto Twitter user shared this unfair use of copyrighted drawing by the Yuga Labs’ NFT team and noted that they used it without permission.
The original artist, Easy Drawing Guides, also responded and confirmed that Yuga Labs doesn’t have a licence to use the vector logo, which is against the tutorial platform’ terms & conditions for commercial use.
Yuga Labs co-founder Greg Solano also responded on this matter and said that the team had hired a freelancer to draw this logo for its NFTs collection project. Now the team is in contact with that freelancer, who copied the logo, for further investigation.
Solano also confirmed that the team will change the logo & will give an update on the official website.
